About Chris Webster
My name is Chris Webster, and this is my home-grown experiment in getting my theories out of my head and on to paper. I’m not famous. I’m not the smartest or most talented guy you know. I don’t lead worship in an arena. I even wrote this biography in the first person. I’m the Pastor of Worship and Communications at Grace Bible Church in Killeen, TX. I’ve had the awesome opportunity to lead worship with youth and adults for the past 15+ years. I still have a whole heck of a lot to learn.
The Experiment
This site isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list of every possible way to lead worship. This isn’t a dictionary of worship leading. It’s simply an attempt to share a few of the personal thoughts and practices I’ve picked up along my own journey. I want to keep learning and having discussions with those who are down in the foxholes with me. This site is for people who want to hear specifics. As artists, we often fall into the bad habit of describing what we do in huge, vague, metaphorical, gold-encrusted word pictures. We love that kind of stuff. It’s why we’re artists. But many times we miss out on some concrete ideas that could get down into the specifics of what we do and how we do it. We may just need to know how to play a certain chord, or how to lead a band well, or some thoughts on choosing songs for a set list. Leading worship is a beautiful work. It‘s glorious and it’s arduous. It’s not just fancy theories, it’s also the specifics of how to make them a reality. It’s about taking big ideas and sweating them out until they’re birthed into reality. I want to try to connect the dots from grand visions to the nitty-gritty of our week-to-week, and back again. Let’s be honest. Let’s talk specifics. Let’s learn from each other. I’m praying that some of these words will help you to keep on truckin’.
